The club is based in the new £2 million 'Fell Foot Active Base' facilities provided by our landlords, the National Trust.
These facilities, shared with the Windermere Rowing Club and other "Active Base" users, provide a fantastic base for sailing and will allow the club to flourish and expand in the future.
The National Trust has a code of conduct that all Active Base users must adhere to. The sailing club's use of the facilities is also outlined in the Heads of Terms agreement with the Trust, which is available in the members section.
Things you need to know
Affiliation fee: Members have a choice of paying a summer or full calendar year affiliation fee. 'Summer' is defined as penultimate Saturday in March to penultimate Saturday in October, and therefore covers the regular SWSC season. Note the affiliation fee is paid by members to SWSC, who will then pay a total sum to the NT.
Access: Payment of the affiliation fee will mean you are issued with a wristband containing a microchip, that enables you to access the facilities (and eventually will be needed for access to the whole 'Active base' site). All club members are required to pay the fee. Members will be able to reprogram or collect their individual wristbands from the National Trust office at Fell Foot at the start of the season.
Car parking: There are 14 car parking spaces next to the road adjacent to the changing rooms. Additional car parking is in the 'overflow' car park in the north field. Car parking is chargeable at NT rates, and if you attend the club regularly it is worth joining the NT, as parking is then free.
Use of clubhouse: We have unfettered (but not exclusive) access to the clubhouse 9-5pm on race days. At other times it is available for use by club members unless required by the NT. They will give us at least 2 weeks notice if it is to be unavailable for any reason. We have exclusive use of the clubhouse and kitchen for up to 6 events per year (meetings, socials etc). Note so do the rowers.
Use of kitchen: Hours are as above. It is open for members to make tea/coffee etc. However for catering for club events, anyone using the facilities will require a food hygiene certificate.
Use of changing rooms: Are available 24x7 during the summer season
Boat park: The capacity of the boat park is around 97 boats, and therefore space is at a premium. Boat park spaces are on a first come basis and there are specific limitations on larger boats that need a car for launching. Any space that the club does not allocate by the 1st June will then be available for the NT to rent out.
Jetties and slipways: We have use of the 2 'active base' jetties for all race days between 9 and 5, but shared with other affiliated clubs. There are planned revisions to the jetties and slipways being developed with the Rowers and the Sailing Club by the National Trust.
Open meetings and Frostbite series: We are licenced to have 5 open meetings and 2 open weeks within the summer period. The Frostbite is by separate licence.
