Winter Walk - Walney, Barrow-in-Furness

26th January 2020, 10:30 - 15:00

Meet at 10.30 am in the car park on the left as you approach North Scale on Walney, where the footpath crosses the road (183697).

This is a 6 mile walk starting at the Norse village of North Scale, taking in the channel view and site of the steelworks, before crossing Walney, past the airfield to Earnse Bay, then walking south along the beach to Sandy Gap, over Jubilee Bridge and past the shipyard to the Dock Museum, before returning via Vickerstown and the Promenade. Commentary will range from airships to Boer War generals and Reverend Awdry's Island of Sodor, so stay close to Martin in order to benefit from his research! This walk is partly on paved paths but there are muddy sections too. Anyone who would like historical notes and pictures can contact Martin by email.

Post-walk refreshments at The Crown, North Scale.

Led by Martin Bates
