    SWSC Open Day 19 February

    The club is holding an open day on Saturday February 19, 10am-2pm for interested people and prospective members to visit our new location and talk to club members. Our new location not only offers excellent sailing opportunities, from learning to sail to competitive racing, but camping and AirBnB accommodation is available through YMCA Lakeside.     South Windermere Sailing Club moves to a new location

    It's very rare for a sailing club to move location, but pretty much unknown for one to move a mile and a half to a new location - and even stay on the same lake. But after 60 years of operating from Fell Foot that is exactly what South Windermere Sailing Club are doing.     Congratulations to our 2021 Award Winners

    Members aged 7 to 80 won a total of 56 awards at our Annual Dinner and Prizegiving held at Newby Bridge Hotel, October 23. A total of 21 members won awards, from the Waterhead Cup for SWSC's signature race the length of Windermere won by Mark Fearnley to the Whippersnappers Trophy for the most promising, enthusiastic junior won by George Taylor.     Winter walks scheduled

    Thanks to the volunteers who have offered to lead walks in 2022, we now have a full programme of interesting walks for the coming winter. This will be a great opportunity for enjoying the countryside, exercising, socialising and keeping up to date with the latest SWSC news, all of which we missed out on as a group last year.     SWSC Committee elected at AGM

    SWSC members held their Annual General Meeting on Saturday, October 2, with over 40 attending in person and 10 people via Zoom. Commodore Angela O'Donnell recognised the hard work of the committee in managing a challenging but successful year and looked forward to a great future for the club in 2022 .     Commodore's Day features marauding and cake!

    The Annual Commodore's Day is Saturday, July 31. Always a highlight for its fun activities on and off the water, this year will feature fancy dress on the pirating theme and lots of cake!     History of the Waterhead Race

    South Windermere Sailing Club's Waterhead race has been run annually since 1965. It was only cancelled once - in 2020 due to COVID restrictions. Phil and Margaret Bissell prepared a fascinating look back at the history of the only sailing race going the full length of Windermere and back.     Anniversary Waterhead Race Enjoyed by All

    Waterhead Race is Back!

    South Windermere Sailing Club can confirm the running of the 2021 Waterhead Race, on Sunday 13th June, at 11am. There is another long distance race in the Lake District that quite few people attend, but this is longer, and probably trickier. It involves racing through crowded Bowness Bay and navigating the chain ferry at Ferry Nab. It sets off from South Windermere Sailing Club at Fell Foot park, and goes north to

    SWSC to celebrate 60 years

    On 13 May 1961, 20 keen sailors met in a room at Fell Foot to form the South Windermere Sailing Club. After an initial 10/- donation the fees were set at 1 guinea, and the club burgee (still in the SWSC logo) was designed. At the age of 17, the first Secretary, Bernard Rhodes, proposed they should purchase "Rope for racing buoys, whistle, yachtsman timer, loud hailer or megaphone, and one lot of 25 copies
