Join in the Big Windermere Survey
Published 15:17 on 6 Aug 2023
The Freshwater Biological Association, also based at YMCA North Camp, research the health of freshwater all over the world including Windermere.
Their next Big Windermere Survey is on Sunday 13thAugust between 10:00-12:00 and they welcome volunteers!
They have sampling sites all over the catchment, from Grasmere down to Newby Bridge; you can see them on this map. There are different types of locations: from the shore (marked with a pin on the map), from a bridge (marked with a bridge icon) and offshore (marked with a person and boat icon on the map).
If you would like to take part in the next survey, please let them know if there is a location/area you would prefer, and they can let you know what is still available for you.
Please watch this video to find out what is involved in the sample taking procedure. Sampling will take place on Sunday 13th August between 10:00-12:00 and your kits will need to be dropped back at one of the four hubs immediately afterwards. You will be assigned a sample time and hub depending on your assigned location. You will need to collect your sampling kit from FBA's office at YMCA North Camp (Hedley wing) in advance.
Sign up by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. For further information about the project, and the results of past surveys, visit https://www.fba.org.uk/volunteer/the-big-windermere-survey
