Two special September races
Published 14:28 on 18 Sep 2026
Hello members, please give consideration to taking part in these special event races over the next two Sundays.
Bart's Bash on Sunday 20th September 11.00 to 13.00
This race takes place around the world and measures how far you can sail in 100 minutes and taking into account your PY rating gives you a world ranking. It raises money to support the Andrew Simpson Foundation which transforms the lives of young people through sailing and water sports The Foundation was set up in the memory of British Olympic sailor, Andrew Bart Simpson who tragically died when sailing as the tactician on an America's Cup catamaran, Artemis. Please bring your card or money on the day.
Our new two hander Rookie Races on Sunday 27th September 11.00 to 16.00
The purpose of this day is to have fun and to give less experienced members an opportunity to race with those who race regularly. On this occasion Rookie means that you have never won a race.
This is also a charity race event to raise funds for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. You may recall last year of a talk from Jaime Williams about this charity which provides opportunities for children and young people with a cancer diagnosis to get together in a sailing environment. This is a voluntary, suggested donation of £5 per sailor taking part.
For this event to work well we need
1. Two handed boats with their owner who is willing to helm or crew (if appropriate) in their own boat.
2. Experienced sailors wishing to helm or crew a club boat.
3. Rookie helm and rookie crew in their own boat.
4. Most importantly rookie crews and rookie helms wishing to take part.
IT IS VERY INPORTANT TO CONTACT MIKE DEANE,OUR SAILING SECRETARY, WITH YOUR WILLINGNESS TO TAKE PART AND TO TELL HIM WHICH CATEGORY 1 TO 4 ABOVE THAT YOU COME UNDER SO THAT HE CAN SORT OUT THE BOAT CREWS.

This is intended to be a light hearted racing day, open to all club members.
The day will conclude with a prize presentation and a Jacobs Join meal around 4 pm.
We are heading towards the end of the sailing season so please make every effort to support these events and worthy causes.
Looking forward to seeing a whole flotilla out on the water.
