    Waterhead Race is Back!

    South Windermere Sailing Club can confirm the running of the 2021 Waterhead Race, on Sunday 13th June, at 11am. There is another long distance race in the Lake District that quite few people attend, but this is longer, and probably trickier. It involves racing through crowded Bowness Bay and navigating the chain ferry at Ferry Nab. It sets off from South Windermere Sailing Club at Fell Foot park, and goes north to

    SWSC to celebrate 60 years

    On 13 May 1961, 20 keen sailors met in a room at Fell Foot to form the South Windermere Sailing Club. After an initial 10/- donation the fees were set at 1 guinea, and the club burgee (still in the SWSC logo) was designed. At the age of 17, the first Secretary, Bernard Rhodes, proposed they should purchase "Rope for racing buoys, whistle, yachtsman timer, loud hailer or megaphone, and one lot of 25 copies

    Before SWSC: My First Waterhead

    I was one of four engineering apprentices who hired Myosotis - a 30 foot ex broads yacht from Holidays Afloat at Bowness in June 1960. Dave 1 managed to convince the owner that he knew all about boats as he worked part time on Fairhaven lake.     2021 SWSC Officers and Committee Elected

    At its Annual General Meeting on October 24, the South Windermere Sailing Club thanked James Woolgrove for his two years of service as Commodore, and welcomed Angela O'Donnell as Commodore for the upcoming 60th Anniversary year in 2021.     First-ever SWSC Old Gaffers Regatta

    The bulk of SWSC's Old Gaffers set sail on August 15 for their first-ever Regatta. Six traditional sailing boats in the club's new fleet were able to join the day, and the light to non-existent wind allowed them also to use the oars typical to the boats as they ventured up the lake.     Regatta Week

    This week is set to be another fun week especially to build racing and sailing skills. Monday and Tuesday is fun and friendly race training for all abilities. Wednesday is a day to recover. Then the Anniversary Regatta will be held on Thursday and Friday.

    Procedures for accessing the Active Base for Members

    SWSC members should all have received several emails about the new booking procedures for accessing Fell Foot's Active Base.
