Art comes to the Sailing Club

When Phil Bissell retired as Commodore of the Club in 2016, he and Margaret were presented with an original watercolour painting of the Club as a token of appreciation. The watercolour painting was by Club Member and artist, Karen Lester and depicted the scene from the old Club House at Fell Foot, looking northwards up the lake.

Things have moved on and a lot has changed ! We now have our new Club house and base at the YMCA, which is taking shape nicely, down to the hard work of members. There are many fond memories of the old Club house and it was during some reminiscing that the conversation turned to the painting, and the idea was born to make a copy of the original to hang in the new Club House.

Margaret and Phil Bissell have very generously organised a fine art print to be taken and framed from their original painting. It will be hung in the Club house this year, a nice addition to creating a homely space and also a reminder of the 'old days'. Look out for it in the Club house from mid March.

Helping to raise Club funds

Already the print has contributed to Club funds when it was spotted at the framers in Preston and a customer bought an additional copy !

If you too are interested owning a copy of the painting and at the same time supporting Club funds please get in touch with Karen Lester via enquiries@swsailing.co.uk. The giclee prints are available in two sizes and are of archival quality. Orders are being take until the end of April.

There is more ! A further Art project is underway involving club members Karen Lester, Jeremy Lambert and Jenny Waldron who will be busy creating work for the Club house and aiming to raise funds. You may also be familiar with the cartoons of Wyn Roberts, who is also helping to support the art project. More on this later but in the meantime look out for them being creative around the Club as the season begins
