SWSC held its annual general meeting on Saturday, October 7 to review the year, set fees for 2024 and elect the officers and committee for the next 12 months.

Commodore Sara Speicher gave a comprehensive overview of the work of the trustees, officers and committee specifically related to the prospective sale of the YMCA North Camp site. She highlighted the strong support the club has received, both in its efforts to secure a long-term future for the club and in articulating the community value of the site as a whole. She also highlighted the strong and diverse volunteering club members have made to the programme and the development of club facilities. As she said, "The club is the successful, family-friendly, supportive community it is because of all of you - the members and your sailing, assisting, mentoring, repairing, and volunteering. From so many people who talk to me about the club, I have realised that we may not be the largest club in the Lakes, nor certainly the wealthiest, but we have the one of the best reputations as the most welcoming, with the most diverse sailing activities in one of the loveliest parts of the country."

Hon. Treasurer Les Weekes presented the financial statements which showed the club still in a sound financial state. However, to cover some unforeseen large expenditures and prepare for future considerations related to the North Camp site, it was proposed, and approved, to raise membership and boat space fees by 10 per cent.

Alison Graham, Hon. Sailing Secretary, highlighted the increasing numbers of new members joining racing as a very positive trend, as well as the successful series of races despite the inevitable challenges of the weather.

Membership has remained steady with 58 family memberships, 42 full memberships, 1 cruiser, 1 adult, 2 YMCA staff and 6 honorary - for a total of 241 individuals.

Fifteen members were elected as officers and committee members. Their names and roles can be found here.
