What do you do when your outdoor club activities are placed on hold? South Windermere Sailing Club members have found a lot of humour, home projects and new skills in being "virtual sailors".

Wyn Roberts has amused us with his great cartoons of socially distant sailing.

Some have made huge progress on long-dormant boat and house projects. One person on Facebook that their car "had never been so clean" although another admitted, "I'd never be so desperate for things to do."

And many members are getting involved in the "SWSC Virtual Regatta" online sailing races combined with a Zoom audio call that's great for chatting during and between races. "Messing About Virtual Regatta" is held on Saturday mornings. Racing that counts towards a virtual trophy is held Sunday afternoons, with sailing instructions and results posted on the website.

The eSailing programme is offered by the RYA which is now holding regional and national eSailing championships. Congratulations to Ed Russell, who won the SWSC April Series and will now represent our club in the regional final.

SWSC members who have not yet joined the Virtual Regatta can find the instructions in the members section of the website.

And for those who are still looking for ways to calm themselves or others in their household, Cathy, member David Hindle's wife, is offering yoga videos for children and adults See the "Cathy at Calmer Minds" channel on YouTube.

The SWSC committee continue to monitor government and RYA guidelines and hope to bring club sailing and activities back as soon as possible. But we are aware that this doesn't look like it will be anytime soon.
